Management and Experience

At barely 20-years of age, Christian Pulisic was transferred from Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea FC for a Fee of $68 million. A ‘market-standard’ sell-on fee arrangement with his American youth development program would have amounted to $10.2 million at the time.

Can America distill a “formula” for finding, nurturing, developing or simply polishing the next Tab Ramos, Reyna, Armas, O’Brien, Donovan, Dempsey, Bradley or Pulisic; among others that have made the U.S. Soccer tradition one to be proud of.

James kilmeade

A Long Island, New York native, Jim Kilmeade’s involvement with the sport of soccer began during his youth playing days in the 1970’s with the Massapequa Soccer Club. Having been influenced by the knowledge and passion of Club Co-Founder & then NY Cosmos Head Coach (Future US Soccer Hall of Famer), Gordon Bradley.  Jim went on to Captain his High School team and then competing at Division 1 collegiate level with Hofstra University.  He continued his playing career in the Long Island Soccer Football Leagie & Northeast Super League with AC Glen Cove and subsequently, his sports marketing career with the NY Arrows of the M.I.S.L., under the tutelage of legendary American Sports Executive, Tod Leiweke.  Parlaying his early playing experience into local community service, Jim became the youngest Head Coach (at 17yrs old) in LIJSL history going on to coach Youth Soccer for 40 years, including at High School level on Long Island.

Continuing along the sports marketing path he established at the NY Arrows, Jim joined the USL’s NY Nationals (Hempstead, NY) as both a Professional Player & Director of Ticket Sales / Community Relations.  Shortly thereafter, Jim was named the General Manager of the Long Island Rough Riders & Lady Riders (Uniondale, NY) in 1993 where he launched and directed all facets of the franchise from 1993 – 96, immediately preceding the formation of MLS.  Highlights included a National Championship (Men & Women), Organization of the Year, hosting the USL Finals, International Matches and the grooming of future international star players and coaches - Chris Armas (Captain, US National team), Giovanni Savarese, Jim Rooney, and Tony Meola (Captain, US National Team), as well as coach Alfonso Mondelo. Jim also served as General Manager in the A-League with the NY Fever and went on to rejoin a re-capitalized Long Island Rough Riders organization as VP/GM in 2003-2006, establishing the largest Super Y League program associated with a professional club in the US at that time.

Mr. Kilmeade has also held, executive positions with Fila USA & Umbro International.  While at Fila, Jim spearheaded Fila USA’s creation of a “Soccer Division”.  Upon moving across to Umbro International, Jim was tasked with heading up the North America market while serving as Vice President of Marketing & Broadcast Media for the wholly-owned (USL) United Soccer Leagues. In that multi-faceted role, Jim directed the North American marketing plans for Manchester United FC, the English FA & Irish FA, Aston Villa FC, Celtic FC & Panathinaikos FC, while managing Umbro N.A.’s partnership with the fledgling U.S. league – Major League Soccer as well as the front office operation of the USL.  In that latter capacity, Jim negotiated the first National Broadcasting agreement in USL history with the Fox Soccer Channel.

As the deck chairs of U.S. professional soccer began to get dramatically re-arranged, Jim cross-purposed his sports marketing to a position with the NHL’s NY Islanders in the role of Corporate Partnerships Sales while gearing up a venture operating as a professional Synthetic Turf-Field builder.  That initial venture has culminated in Jim’s role as the National Director of Soccer for A-TURF – a leading artificial grass field turf systems organization, where he’s contracted and installed over 200 fields across the United States.

Jim’s experiences include TV broadcast color commentating for local NY area High School, College and Pro Soccer matches, along with Creating and Producing Soccer Zone in collaboration with his brother Brian Kilmeade – the notable television personality.  The Soccer Zone project was produced in partnership with the Long Island Junior Soccer League – one of the largest youth soccer leagues in the country at that time.  Negotiating a ground-breaking underwriting arrangement with Vytra Healthplans, the program was able to be seen by thousands of local players and their families on both the Madison Square Garden (MSG) & PBS Networks.  Mr. Kilmeade has been inducted into the Halls of Fame for both the Long Island Soccer Football League (LISFL) and Long Island Soccer Players (LISP) organizations.

Mr. Kilmeade and Mr. Reardon formed BQE Soccer Partners in 2012 to identify, design and develop world-class Soccer Facilities across the Long Island / NYC Metro area as a key component of Architecting the American Soccer Club of New York.  Projects have included the Long Island Junior Soccer League’s 17-acre “Peter Collins Soccer Park” in Plainview-NY, the “Elmont Town Crossings” project – the proposed home of a 22,000 seat soccer specific  stadium for the NY Cosmos, the SUSA Orlin & Cohen sports complex in  Central Islip, Long Island and, currently, the “Midway Crossings” development project in Ronkonkoma, Long Island which may ultimately include a modular and expandable soccer specific stadium.
